A jostling crowd of galaxies inhabit the core of this galaxy cluster

NGC Objects: NGC 2229, 2230, 2233, 2235

Galaxies of all shapes and sizes populate this image

Apart from the four NGC galaxies, the rest of the galaxies are the territory of large telescopes.

NGC 2229

RA 06 21 23.7   Dec -64 57 24   Mag 13.4   Size 1.4′ x 0.4′   SB 12.5   PA 139°

228x: NGC 2229 appears as a faint oval glow, elongated 35″ x 15″, brightening somewhat to the centre.

 

NGC 2230

RA 06 21 27.5   Dec 5 -64 59 35   Mag 13.1   Size 1.1′ x 0.9′   SB 13.1   PA 81°

228x: NGC 2230 appears as a faint, round glow, 40″ in diameter, with a small brighter core

 

NGC 2233

RA 06 21 40.1   Dec -65 02 00   Mag 13.8   Size 0.9′ x 0.2′   SB 12.0   PA 45°

228x: NGC 2233 appears as a faint and narrow glow, elongated SW-NE, 25″ x ~8″. 

NGC 2235

RA 06 22 22.0   Dec -64 56 03   Mag 13.0   Size 1.3′ x 1.0′   SB 13.2   PA 68°

228x: This is the brightest of the galaxies, appearing as a fairly faint oval, elongated SW-NE, 45″ x 30″.
